In a little more than a week, the two biggest teams in Spain will clash for the first time this season.
Real Madrid are scheduled to host Barcelona next Saturday, in a game that could have long term implications for both sides. Real are currently playing catch up in La Liga, while Barcelona have made a great start. A win for Barca would make them undisputed favorites, while a Real victory would open up the title race.
Another angle to this game is the return of new Barcelona signing Luis Suarez. He has been serving a suspension for his actions at this summer’s World Cup. He will be available for the Real game and is raring to go. Suarez will link up with Lionel Messi and Neymar in one of the most formidable three pronged attacks in world football.
Real are not short of fire power either. Cristiano Ronaldo has been averaging more than two goals a game this season. Supported by the likes of Gareth Bale, new singing James Rodriguez, and Karim Benzema, Ronaldo will be hoping to put Barcelona to the sword.
The bookies believe that Real are favorites for this game. The margins are tight, but Real have odds of 7/5 to get the win at home. Barcelona are out at 11/5, while the draw is 5/2. This is a tremendously difficult game to bet on. Both teams are fantastic going forward, but have weaknesses at the back.
The smart money would be on Barcelona to get the win. Suarez starting will give them a huge boost, while Messi has been in great form. More importantly, their team looks to have a better balance than Real’s. With Toni Kroos and Luka Modric anchoring the midfield, Real Madrid are a bit lightweight after the loss of Xabi Alonso in the summer. They will struggle to keep Barcelona’s forwards at bay.
